Changing your site’s domain name will not only be a useful trick to know if you currently have a .yu domain, but it will be an essential trick to know on (or preferably before) September 30th 2009. The .yu domain is for the former Yugoslavia, so if you have any sites with this domain and you want to keep them running, refer to the previous news item. We’ve had a couple of weeks of political unrest in Iran following the elections there that the opposition claim were rigged. With so many people in Iran trying to communicate with the rest of the world, while the authorities were trying to stop them, it was interesting to see Google quickly roll out a Farsi Google Translate version. And of course, translating your original web content into other languages can be a useful addition to your basic SEO efforts. Matt Cutts (the man with four “Ts” in his name) explains the finer points of machine translation.

If you are an avid blogger and if you use Firefox as your browser, then the new Wordtracker Firefox Plugin for SEO bloggers should interest you. This useful plugin lets you do keyword research while you write your blog. No more need for switching from one program to another. Now you can monitor the number of times you type in a particular keyword phrase while you are writing the post. A quick glance will tell you and your train of thought needn’t be disturbed.
